Offaly

County Offaly, with its castles, abbeys, and heritage centres, lies near the centre of Ireland. There are numerous places of historical interest throughout the county, including one of the most important early monastic sites in Ireland – Clonmacnoise.

The heathery Slieve Bloom Mountains, in the south-east of Offaly, are ideal for walking and hiking, boasting open moors and hidden valleys just waiting to be explored. The River Shannon separates Offaly from Galway and Roscommon in the west of the county.  For more

Longford

County Longford lies in the Shannon basin and the upper catchment area of the River Erne.

Longford has a strong tradition in fishing angling, water sports, literary and heritage. It boasts many monastic sites throughout the county including the Dolmen in Aughnacliff, the ruins of the Abbey in Abbeylara and the historic ruins of St Mel’s first Cathedral in Ardagh. Longford also plays home to a vibrant night life and is home to some of the top sports, arts and social centres in the Midlands.

Kildare

Kildare is a county of open grasslands, lush green pastures and large tracts of ancient bogland, interspersed with trees and gently rolling hills.

Kildare is famous as a sporting, racing and hunting region. Racing at the Curragh, Punchestown and Naas takes place all year round, boasting some of the biggest meetings in the country’s racing calendar, including the Irish Derby in June. Near Kildare town, the Irish National Stud and neighbouring Japanese Gardens, said by experts to be the best of their kind in Europe, are attractions well worth visiting.
